Subito dopo le scosse di terremoto i vescovi marchigiani si sono sentiti telefonicamente per un primo report sui danni. Di concerto con le Prefetture, i sacerdoti stanno svolgendo le prime verifiche in tutte le chiese aperte e segnalano ai vigili del fuoco eventuali problemi. Al momento si lamentano distacchi di stucchi e lesioni in alcune chiese nella zona di Senigallia e Pesaro. Anche le Caritas sono in preallarme e collaborano alle verifiche sulle loro strutture e su eventuali necessità di assistenza alla popolazione.
Questo l’annuncio di Nazzareno Marconi, presidente della Conferenza episcopale marchigiana, che aggiunge: «Il segretario generale della Cei, monsignor Giuseppe Baturi, mi ha già contattato e ha raccolto un primo bilancio della situazione, tenendo i contatti con il Commissario del terremoto e la Protezione civile. In mattinata anche il Santo Padre ha chiesto notizie e garantito la Sua vicinanza alla popolazione colpita prima dall’alluvione ed ora dal terremoto».
